Don’t fall through the KRACK

There is a new vulnerability out there regarding wi-fi

KRACK does not go get a device, but grabs the data that is wirelessly being sent by devices. Here is an article offering more detail.

If you are using a Windows 10 machine, the good news is that if you are a Newberry support client we’ve already released a patch that will protect you. If you are using an older Windows machine, or any other device including a cell phone, you may be subject to this new attack.

Here are some basics to help protect yourself.
  • If possible, hardwire into a network rather than using wi-fi.
  • If you must use wi-fi, do not transmit sensitive data such as social security numbers, bank account information or credit card data.
  • If you must transmit sensitive data through wi-fi, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
  • Try to only communicate with websites using HTTPS not HTTP.
